After some rainy weather in the Kananaskis area, the forest was fairly green and moist. Only one group of edible mushrooms was found – a very dry clump of oyster mushrooms. The majority of mushrooms found were Cortinarius spp. and Gymnopus dryophilus.
Date: Sunday, June 21, 2026 from 12:30 – 2:30 PM.
Location: South Jumpingpound Demonstration forest in the Sibbald Flats area of Kananaskis – approximately a 50 min. drive west of Calgary.
Terrain: Sub-alpine and foothill ecosystem with a mix of lodgepole pine, white spruce, subalpine fir, trembling aspen and balsam poplar.

Specimens found:
Gymnopus dryophilus, Gyromitra esculenta, Pluteus lutescens, Omphalina sp., Cortinarius spp., Psathyrella uliginicola (aka Coprinopsis uliginicola), Hebeloma sp., Fomitopsis mounceae, Fomitopsis ochracea, Gloephyllum sepiarium, Trichaptum biforme, a very small Picipes varius, a small very dry Pleurotus populinus, some old Puff balls.
