31 people in total. Beautiful day, but not a lot of rain lately. Red Deer mushrooms seem to be taking a bit of a break, but we did find a few neat things. I started by sharing mushroom books (Mushrooms of Western Canada, the new Mushrooms for Kids book, All The Rain Promises & More, Edible Mushrooms of Alberta & Ascomycetes of North America) & we had some good talks about the importance of learning toxic species alongside learning edibles.
Once everyone was signed in & knew the map & meeting place, we were off to the woods. Some Hericium coralloides, some Hypsizygus & some little Lycoperdon puff balls saved the day for edibles. We also saw a few Ganoderma applanatum, some Coprinopsis sect Atramentaria & Uliginicola, some Lepiotas, Fomitopsis spraguei & mounceae, a variety of Ramaria & Phaeoclavulina, some Inocybe, some jelly-like Dacrymyces, a Leucoagaricus, a Cortinarius, some Pluteus, & a few other polypores.
We ended with almost an hour of discussion & questions after the walk & everyone left with some new knowledge of mushrooms. Not a lot was found, but some fun memories were still made.
