DESCRIPTION:Join us for a multi-day foray in Perryvale Alberta! \n\nLeader(s): Robert Simpson\nDate: Friday\, September 6th – Sunday\, September 8th\nTime: Saturday Sept. 7: morning foray starting at 10:30 a.m. afternoon foray starting at 2 p.m. Sunday\, Sept. 8: morning foray starting at 10:30 a.m. \nLocation:  Meet at the Perryvale Community Hall – Gd\, Main St\, Perryvale\, AB T0G 1T0 \nOther Details: Perryvale is located about 35 kms. south of Athabasca to the east of Highway 2 north. Drive north on Hwy. 2 from Edmonton for about 1 hour. Turn right onto Township Road 633A Turn right onto Range Rd. 232B Perryvale will be on your left a short distance from the last turn. 40 campsites are available free of charge in the Perryvale Campground. If all those sites are taken\, Bruno Wiskel and his partner Susan Galloway will have room on their nearby land for campers. There is a trout pond nearby and campers will have access to the washroom facilities in Perryvale Hall if they so wish. Bruno is hosting a group of some 30 square dancers that same week-end and we are welcome to participate in the dancing and in a barbecue being held on the Saturday evening\, starting at 6 p.m.\, at a cost of $10.00 each. SUMMARY:Special Meeting to Consider a Special Resolution
DESCRIPTION:TAKE NOTICE THAT the following Special Resolution will be presented for consideration at a Special Meeting of the members of the Society to be held on Wednesday\, September 11\, 2019 at 6:30 p. m. at Tempo School located in Old Riverbend: \n            That the current Bylaws of the Society be amended as indicated in the document of the proposed amended Bylaws (link at the bottom). \nPlease note that most of the proposed amendments are required in order to accommodate the change in our membership year from a calendar year to a rolling year.  In other words\, your membership will henceforth last for a year from the time you pay your dues. \nWe are also adding a category of membership\, namely “Spouses and significant others of Honorary Life members”.  (Article 2.1 (f)).  The Board has decided to set a fee of $10.00 for this category of membership and will seek approval of the membership for this fee at the meeting. \nFinally\, the proposed amendment to Article 7.2 is required to correct a mistake in the number of the Article dealing with Special Resolutions referenced in Article 7.2. \nWe look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the meeting.  At the conclusion of the meeting\, a short neighborhood foray to the John Janzen Nature Centre will be held.

DESCRIPTION:Registration for the 2019 Great Alberta Mushroom Foray is open! \nAn amazing weekend of mushrooming with eminent mycologists and local experts is planned for September 13\, 14\, and 15\, 2019\, at Weald Provincial Recreation Area and Robb\, Alberta.  Join Michael Schulz\, mycologist\, ecologist and resident microscopist from Portage College; and Martin Osis\, former and long time President of the Alberta Mycological Society as we locate\, pick\, and identify fungi in the Coal Branch.  A citizen science approach will be used for collecting\, sorting\, identifying and recording our fungal finds. \n \nLeaders:  Karen Slevinsky and Robert Simpson\nDates: Friday\, September 13 – Sunday\, September 15\, 2019\nCost:  Registration Cost for the Great Alberta Mushroom Foray – $10 per member\nCamping at Weald Provincial Recreation Area $30 per unit per night.  Please reserve your spot by pre-paying.  We can only accommodate 20 units (motorhome\, trailer\, or tent)\nCamping Ticket options:  Friday night ($30/unit); Saturday night ($30/unit) * see site description below. \nIf you would like to stay at the Coal Branch Hotel the cost is $40-$85 per night; a limited number of rooms and types have been set aside for the AMS. The site includes a kitchen shelter with a big fire place.  The kitchen shelter has about 8 picnic tables in it.  There is a pump for non-potable water\, therefore plan accordingly.  There are 2 outhouses on site and picnic tables and fire pits are scattered throughout the site for the use of campers.  There will be a supply of firewood.  Campers should bring everything needed to be self-sufficient.\nPeople who wish to camp can arrive the evening before. DESCRIPTION:This is a FREE event and is first come\, first seated. Please invite any who are interested. Doors open at 7:00pm. \nThe Young Polish-Canadian Professional Association together with the Alberta Mycological Society are excited to invite you to this presentation about edible mushrooms that you can find here in Alberta. Have you always wanted to go mushroom picking here at home\, but never knew where to go or what you can pick? Our presenters will share with you their knowledge and experience. \nChristine Costello (Speaker 1)\nChristine joined the Alberta Mycological Society in 2013. She presently sits on the board and is the membership coordinator. In the six years she has been a member\, she has foraged for wild mushrooms and learned quite a bit about their culinary uses. She still has much to learn\, but enjoys sharing her knowledge. \nBarb Shworak (Speaker 2)\nBarb joined the Alberta Mycological Society in 2013. She was a member of the board for two years as webmaster. She comes from a family that has foraged for wild mushrooms since childhood. She is very enthusiastic about the world of fungi and also enjoys sharing her interest and knowledge. \nA warm thank you to Polish-Canadian Association and the Polish Canadian Cultural Centre (Dom Polski) for sponsoring and hosting us.
