SUMMARY:GAMF (Great Alberta Mushroom Foray) at Pigeon Lake!
DESCRIPTION:Registration for the 2022 Great Alberta Mushroom Foray (GAMF) is open!\nThe Alberta Mycological Society has planned an amazing weekend of forays\, lectures\, presentations\, and mushrooming activities with passionate fungi enthusiasts\, distinguished mycologists\, and local experts on September 2\, 3\, 4\, and 5\, 2022\, at Camp St. Basil\, Mulhurst Bay\, Alberta. Listen and discuss all things fungi with mycologists\, such as Roland Treu\, Athabasca University Professor and researcher of fungi diversity and their ecology; Paul Kroeger\, founding member of the Vancouver Mycological Society and leading expert in field identification of mushrooms of western Canada\, and Michael Schulz\, mycologist and ecologist from Portage College. As well\, two esteemed and learned amateurs:  Martin Osis and Candice Cullum will present workshops and help with fungal identification.   This event uses a citizen science approach to collect\, sort\, identify and record exciting fungal finds. \n\nLeader(s): Karen Slevinsky\, President AMS and the Board of the AMS \nDates: Friday\, September 2 (6:00 p.m.) – Monday\, September 5 (1:00 p.m.) \nLocation: Camp St. Basil\, 470036 Range Road 281\, Mulhurst Bay\, AB \nAccommodations: Dormitory (separated by gender)/Campsites (5 sites available) \nPlease bring your own sleeping bag\, pillow\, and towel in addition to your personal belongings.  \nIf you require a campsite\, please register for a campsite ticket in addition to your general admission ticket. Campsites may have up to 6 people with a Camper/RV or up to two tents\, but not both. \nCost for the Great Alberta Mushroom Foray – $230*/member \nThe cost includes meals (3 breakfasts\, 2 lunches\, and 2 dinners)\, evenings speakers\, Mushroom Identification workshop\, guided forays\, identification assistance by mycologists\, and accommodations (dormitory/campsite). Maximum 60 Registrants; Maximum 5 Campers. \n* The registration cost has been subsidized by the ACA Conservation\, Community and Education Grant we were awarded this year. \nChildren 5 and under are free.  Students 6 and older will receive a refund of 50% of the registration fee at the registration desk. If you are a student\, please show your current student identification at this time. \nAdditional Cost(s) – $15/member – Make Your Own Culinary Mushroom Grow Blocks Workshop by Candice Cullum \nIn this workshop we will be covering the simplest\, most cost effective methods of creating your very own culinary fungal grow blocks. We will start with grown blue oyster grain spawn. We encourage all our members to follow Alberta AHS guidelines with respect to COVID. We want everyone attending GAMF to feel safe and comfortable\, so we kindly ask all participants to attend only if they are not sick. We will provide refunds for cancellations made prior to September 3 to any members who test positive for COVID.
