SUMMARY:GAMF Mushroom Microscopy Course (Lac La Biche)
DESCRIPTION:We kick off 2021 GAMF with a One-Day Mushroom Microscopy Course! \n\nMastering the Mysteries of Mushroom Microscopy \nTake your mushrooming skills to the next level! Under the microscope\, the fungal world mushrooms into a whole new world of spectacular spores\, crazy cystidia\, amazing asci\, and more! Many mushrooms cannot be identified with certainty without microscopic examination\, but learning these skills takes time\, practice\, and some help getting started. Join microscope guru\, Mike Schulz\, to learn and practice deciphering the key microscopic features of gilled mushrooms\, boletes\, polypores\, and ascomycetes. No microscope experience required.\nNote: you can bring your own microscope\, or one will be provided (please let us know if you are bringing your own). Be prepared by bringing your own fungal identification book\, writing materials or computer/personal devices. Some mushrooms will be provided\, but students are encouraged to bring some of their own as well. The more diverse types\, the better!  \n\n \nInstructor:  Michael Schulz\nDate: Friday September 3\, 2021 @ 8:00AM\nCost:  $150/person (all meals are included). If you are a student\, please show your current student identification upon arrival\, and you will be refunded 50% of the registration fee.\n \nLocation: Lac La Biche Portage College\, Environmental Sciences Building. Refer to the Campus Map here to find the Environmental Sciences building. \nDirections: Take Hwy 28 north through Gibbons and Smoky Lake; 30 km east of Smoky Lake\, turn left onto Hwy 36 and head north; and continue north as Hwy 36 becomes Hwy 55 all the way to Lac La Biche\, about 74 km. SUMMARY:GAMF in Lac La Biche! Reservation Req'd!
DESCRIPTION:Registration for the 2021 Great Alberta Mushroom Foray (GAMF) is open! \nThe Alberta Mycological Society has planned an amazing weekend of forays\, lectures\, presentations and mushrooming activities with passionate fungi enthusiasts\, distinguished mycologists\, and local experts on September 3\, 4\, 5\, and 6\, 2021\, in Lac La Biche\, Alberta\, and hosted by Portage College. Listen and discuss all things fungi with mycologists\, such as Roland Treu\, Athabasca University Professor and researcher of fungi diversity and their ecology; Michael Beug\, former President of the Pacific Northwest Key Council and writer of macroscopic keys for fungi identification; and Michael Schulz\, mycologist\, ecologist and resident microscopist from Portage College! This event uses a citizen science approach to collect\, sort\, identify and record exciting fungal finds. \n \nLeaders: Karen Slevinsky\, President AMS and Michael Schulz\, Vice-President AMS and Martin Osis\, former Past President AMS\nDates: Friday\, September 3 @ 6:00 p.m. – Monday\, September 6\, 2021 (finish time tbd)\nCost:  Registration fee is $150.
