DESCRIPTION:Registration for the 2019 Great Alberta Mushroom Foray is open! \nAn amazing weekend of mushrooming with eminent mycologists and local experts is planned for September 13\, 14\, and 15\, 2019\, at Weald Provincial Recreation Area and Robb\, Alberta.  Join Michael Schulz\, mycologist\, ecologist and resident microscopist from Portage College; and Martin Osis\, former and long time President of the Alberta Mycological Society as we locate\, pick\, and identify fungi in the Coal Branch.  A citizen science approach will be used for collecting\, sorting\, identifying and recording our fungal finds. \n \nLeaders:  Karen Slevinsky and Robert Simpson\nDates: Friday\, September 13 – Sunday\, September 15\, 2019\nCost:  Registration Cost for the Great Alberta Mushroom Foray – $10 per member\nCamping at Weald Provincial Recreation Area $30 per unit per night.  Please reserve your spot by pre-paying.  We can only accommodate 20 units (motorhome\, trailer\, or tent)\nCamping Ticket options:  Friday night ($30/unit); Saturday night ($30/unit) * see site description below. \nIf you would like to stay at the Coal Branch Hotel the cost is $40-$85 per night; a limited number of rooms and types have been set aside for the AMS. Please contact kjslevinsky@hotmail.com to make a reservation. \nIf you are staying elsewhere and coming for the day\, you will still need to purchase a GAMF Registration Ticket for $10. \nLocation: Weald Provincial Recreation Area campground. Please visit the map for location details. \nDirections: Take Hwy 16 through Edson; 5 km west of town take HWY 47 south for approximately 35 km to Weald Provincial Recreation Area campground (on the left side of the highway). \nTentative Schedule of Events: \nFriday\, September 13\, 2019\nArrival at Weald Provincial Recreation Area or Coal Branch Hotel on your schedule\nMeet at 8:00 pm.  Informal gathering at the Weald Provincial Recreation Area campsite \nSaturday\, September 14\, 2019\n8:30 a.m. Meet at the Robb Community Hall (RCH) for introductions\, orientation and procurement of materials necessary for collecting.\n9:30 a.m. Leave for the morning forays (two specially chosen sites) from the RCH\n11:30 a.m. return with specimens to the RCH  – sort\, categorize and begin identification\n12:00 noon HOSTED hot lunch provided by the Coal Branch Hotel\n1:30 p.m. Leave for the afternoon forays (two specially chosen sites) from the RCH\n4:00 p.m. return with specimens  – sort\, categorize and continue  identification\n6:00 p.m. Pot Luck Dinner at the RCH\n7:00 p.m. Evening Speaker:  Gulnara Tagirdzhanova “Hidden symbionts in lichens”\n8:00 p.m.  Identification to continue \nSunday\, September 15\, 2019\nAgreed upon start time and meeting place – Foraging for edible mushrooms in the vicinity of Robb/Weald with knowledgeable leaders\n12:00 noon Meet at the RCH – Discussion and ID session at the display tables\nQs&As\n1:30 p.m. Clean up \nPlease Note: There is no electrical service in the campground. The site includes a kitchen shelter with a big fire place.  The kitchen shelter has about 8 picnic tables in it.  There is a pump for non-potable water\, therefore plan accordingly.  There are 2 outhouses on site and picnic tables and fire pits are scattered throughout the site for the use of campers.  There will be a supply of firewood.  Campers should bring everything needed to be self-sufficient.\nPeople who wish to camp can arrive the evening before. We have the group campground  reserved from 4 pm Friday evening until about noon on the Sunday.  Those not wishing to camp may make alternate arrangements to stay overnight in Edson (approximately 40 km away). \n \nPlease read and familiarize yourself with the AMS Foray guidelines. \nHappy Foraging!We would like to thank the Alberta Conservation Association for their financial support for this project.
