Whether you’re mushroom-curious\, or ready to set up your own grow space\, you’ll walk away with a clear understanding of the mushroom cultivation process. \nEthan Zapach is an amateur mycologist and a Director for the Alberta Mycological Society. He spends as much time as he can out in the woods looking for obscure mushrooms to add to his collection and attempt to cultivate indoors. Ethan currently lives in Athabasca\, working in science communications and environmental restoration. DESCRIPTION:Natural Dye Bundle Dye Workshop \nExplore natural dye colour!In this 2 hour workshop participants will explore eco-bundle dyeing and the art of infusing natural pigments onto fibers. Join fibre artist\, Serah Hedin and share in the magical beauty of natural colour. \nYou will learn about the natural dye process from start to finish. Each student will create a unique bandana using natural dye stuff – steam\, unroll and enjoy! While bundles steam\, we will talk about natural dyes in our homes\, gardens and local areas\, as well as mushroom dyes. \nStudents are welcome to bring in their favorite flowers to explore using in the bundle. Each participant will leave with a pamphlet on natural dyeing and a bundle dyed bandana. \nAll ages\, children should be accompanied by an adult. If an adult and child would like to make their own pieces please purchase two spaces. All materials included. \nSerah HedinFibre ArtistYour Content Goes HereAbout your Instructor: Serah HedinSerah Hedin is a fibre artist based in Calgary\, AB. \nWorking at the intersection of traditional craft and ecological inquiry\, she explores colour through foraged plants\, mushrooms and historical dye materials. \nHer work reflects a reverence for slow processes and seasonal rhythms\, with each hue carrying the story of its origin. \nHedin studied Fibre Arts at the Kootenay School of the Arts in Nelson\, BC and weaving at the University College of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford\, BC. \nShe continues to develop her practice through independent study and mentorship with artists across Canada\, the United States\, Mexico and Europe. \nHer next journey takes her to the 21st International Fungi and Fibre Symposium in Riga\, Latvia next August 2027.

He is a regular lecturer at Alberta Mycological Society events as well as general outreach to the community at large.  Martin has led mushroom ID classes for over 20 years for a variety of organizations\, from the Canadian Association of Foodservice Professionals\, libraries and communities across Alberta\, to technical talks for Alberta Society for Human Toxicology. \nMartin’s background & passion include Medicinal Mushrooms and almost any mushroom found in the Boreal forest. He is sought after as a speaker and presenter at a variety of events including several mushroom festivals across Western Canada.  \nMartin has presented on a variety of mushroom topics at Wild Mushroom Expo for several years. At this year’s Expo\, Martin will be speaking on his favourite two subjects: food and medicine: “How to eat more mushrooms\, and why”.
